Property Taxes

Town of Crossfield municipal taxes are calculated from January to December of each year.  

Tax amounts are based on the assessed value of your property and the tax mill rate. The Taxation Bylaw is approved by Town council each year, based on budget requirements for the current year.

Property Assessment and Tax Notice

A combined property assessment and tax notice is mailed to each property owner within the Town of Crossfield in May.

It is the property owner's responsibility to keep all contact information current with the Town of Crossfield, to ensure all information is received and to avoid late penalties.

The combined notice will give you information on the assessed value of your home, as well as the rate of taxes due. Should you disagree with your assessed value or have questions regarding your assessment, contact the Town's Assessor at Wild Rose Assessments.

File a Complaint

The complaint process is defined in the Municipal Government Act and associated regulations.

To submit a valid complaint you must present a completed complaint form and any supporting attachments, the agent authorization form and the prescribed filing fee of $100.00, to the address shown on the assessment notice prior to the deadline indicated on the notice. 

Complaints must be filed within 60 days of the mailing date, shown on the Property Assessment & Tax Notice.

Complaints can only be filed against the assessment, not the taxes or tax rates.

It is the property owner's responsibility to notify the Town of Crossfield of any address changes.

 Payment Options

Taxes are due in full on or before July 31, 2019.  Late payments will result in penalties being applied. We accept payment in person, drop box, mail, direct deposit, interac, Visa and Mastercard. A service charge will be added to any credit card payments.

We also offer the Tax Installment Payment Plan (TIPP) option that allows you to make monthly payments throughout the year without any penalties being applied. (Not available for current year tax billing - payments start Jan. 1, 2020.)

 Tax Installment Payment Plan

The Town of Crossfield offers the Tax Installment Payment Plan. This program allows you to make monthly payments and avoid late payment penalties on your taxes.

To join this program, your tax balance must be at a zero balance at the beginning of the tax year. Monthly payments are made by preauthorized payments from your bank. The payments are calculated by the previous year tax amount and divided by 12 equal installments.

If you wish to join the TIPPS program, you must do so before March 15.  Please contact the Town Administration Office for more information.

Request a Tax Certificate

Tax Certificates are available upon request. The fee for a Tax certificate is $43.00. Forward your request to the Town Administration Office or fax to 403-946-4523. Payments accepted include; cash, cheque, debit, Visa or Mastercard.*

*Payments made with Credit cards are subject to service fees.
