New Home Buyer Programs

Thinking of buying a new home? The Alberta government has a number of programs to help make that experience a good one.

New Home Buyer Protection Plan

The New Home Buyer Protection Act (the "Act") applies to all new homes built after Feb. 1, 2014.

In addition to new single family homes (as defined in the Act), this legislation also applies to duplexes, multi-family homes, condominiums, substantial reconstruction and manufactured homes (including but not limited to modular and ready-to-move homes). Building permits for new construction will only be issued for homes with this new warranty coverage.

Effective Nov. 1, 2016, the Government of Alberta introduced energy efficiency regulations to be included with building permit applications. This requires the building permit applicant include a declaration that the calculations have been completed in compliance with the new requirements.
