Garbage and Recycling

The Town of Crossfield provides waste and recycling cart services for our residents.

Weekly Recycling Cart Collection


Cart collection recycling is currently collected on Thursdays. Every home is assigned a blue recycling bin and these bins stay with the home. The bin should be placed in its proper location the night before or by 7 a.m. on Thursdays.

Recycling and garbage are billed on your bi-monthly utility bill.

Effective March, 2019, curbside recycling is $19.50 bi-monthly and the commercial recycling fee is $10.65 bi-monthly.

Weekly Garbage Cart Collection

Black bins are used for garbage collection. Collection day is on Wednesday and the bin should be placed in its proper location by 7 a.m.

NOTE: The new service provider - C&S Disposal - may change the route it follows, and some residents may notice a change to the time their cart is picked-up. 

Effective March 2019, the charge for garbage pickup is $30.75 bi-monthly.

This charge may be waived for commercial and industrial businesses; however, a copy of a written contract with an alternate service provider must be provided to the Town Administration Office.

  • Garbage pickup day will be established by the service provider but may be subject to change from time-to-time;

  • Garbage shall be placed in plastic bags designed for that purpose and placed in containers designed for that purpose;

  • No bundle, barrel, bag or container of garbage shall exceed the weight of 50 pounds or 22 kilograms;

  • Animal excrement must be placed in a separate plastic bag; and,

  • Garbage shall be set out at the property line at the rear of the property where back alleys are present and at the front property line where no back alleys are present.

 Waste Transfer Site and Recycling Depot

Due to the COVID19 pandemic, the Crossfield Transfer Station & Recycling Depot is still open and operational - but public access is limited. Contact Airdrie Waste Management (403) 945-1492 when you arrive - an employee will open the gates. 

Summer Hours now in effect for Crossfield Transfer Site/Recycling Depot

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Wednesday: 12 to 7 p.m.

The Transfer Site and Recycling Depot is located at 12 Laut Crescent, Crossfield. Fees for use of the transfer site are:

  • Per bag - to a maximum of five bags:$2
  • Half ton truck load: $16
  • Over half ton truck load: $32
  • Appliances (fridge, freezers and water coolers):  $28 (removal of freon)
  • Mattress disposal: $20 per unit.
  • Used oil disposal: $1.00 per litre
  • Use of the Recycling Depot is free.

Acceptable Transfer Site Material:

  • Household waste
  • Cardboard
  • Newspaper
  • Mixed paper
  • Metal
  • Clear glass (no ceramics, light bulbs, mirrors)
  • Automotive batteries
  • Used engine oil and filters (Starting May 1, 2020 used oil will be charged $1.00 per litre)
  • Electronic waste (Alberta‚Äôs Electronic Recycling Program)
  • Appliances (fridges, freezers and water coolers, $28 charge for freon removal)
  • Grass and leaves (seasonal)
  • Christmas trees (seasonal)
  • Branches - less than six inches in diameter (no stumps, these are to be placed out with your garbage)
  • Cell phones
  • Paint cans, aerosol cans
  • Styrofoam
  • All plastic recycling materials #1-7
  • Food waste

 Transfer Site Materials Not Accepted:

  • sod 
  • loam/dirt
  • used tires
  • construction debris 
  • cement/concrete/Asphalt 


Acceptable recycling materials are the same as curbside recycling. In addition you can also bring branches, leaves and organic compost to the recycle depot. For a full list of materials that are accepted by the recycling program, see the following.

A bin for electronics is available at the Transfer Site for eligible electronics under Alberta's Electronic Recycling Program:
