Garbage and Recycling

The Town of Crossfield is pleased to continue waste and recycling cart services for our residents. Please note the upcoming changes:

BluPlanet is the new provider for recycling cart collection services and will begin effective May 2, 2019.

The Waste Transfer Station/Recycling Depot is owned and operated by Airdrie Waste Management Inc. (AWM) and is located at 12 Laut Crescent – and is open for business

Collective Waste will remain as  the provider for the waste cart collection services.

Weekly Recycling Cart Collection


Cart collection recycling is currently collected on Tuesdays. Every home is assigned a blue recycling bin and these bins stay with the home. The bin should be placed in its proper location the night before or by 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday mornings.

Please be aware that weekly recycling cart collection will change to


beginning May 2, 2019.

There will still be regular service pick up on Tuesday April 30, 2019.

Recycling and garbage are billed on your bi-monthly utility bill.


Effective March, 2019, Curbside Recycling is $19.50 bi-monthly and the Commercial Recycling fee is $10.65 bi-monthly.

Weekly Garbage Cart Collection


Black bins are used for Garbage collection. Collection day is on Wednesday and the bin should be placed in its proper location by 7:00 a.m. Wednesday mornings.


Effective March 2019, the charge for garbage pickup is $30.75 bi-monthly. 


This charge may be waived for commercial and industrial businesses however a copy of a written contract with an alternate service provider, must be provided to the Town Administration Office.


  • Garbage pickup day will be established by the service provider but may be subject to change from time-to-time;

  • Garbage shall be placed in plastic bags designed for that purpose and be placed in containers designed for that purpose;

  • No bundle, barrel, bag, or container of garbage shall exceed the weight of 50 pounds or 22 kilograms;

  • Animal excrement must be placed in a separate plastic bag;

  • Garbage shall be set out at the property line at the rear of the property where back alleys are present and at the front property line where no back alleys are present.

 Waste Transfer Site and Recycling Depot


The Transfer site and recycling depot is located at 12 Laut Crescent, Crossfield.


Fees for use of the transfer site are:

  • Per bag - to a maximum of 5 bags    $2.00
  • Half ton truck load                              $16.00
  • Over half ton truck load                     $31.00
  •  Applicances (fridge, freezers and water coolers) $28.00 (removal of freon)
  • The use of the Recycling Depot is free of charge.



Acceptable Transfer Site Material: 


  • Household waste
  • Cardboard
  • Newspaper
  • Mixed paper
  • Metal
  • Clear glass (no ceramics, light bulbs, mirrors)
  • Automotive batteries
  • Used engine oil and filters
  • Electronic waste (Alberta’s Electronic Recycling Program)
  • Appliances (fridges, freezers and water coolers, $28 charge for Freon removal)
  • Grass and leaves (seasonal)
  • Christmas trees (seasonal)
  • Branches-less than 6 in. diameter (no stumps, these would be garbage)
  • Cell phones
  • Paint cans, aerosol can
  • Styrofoam
  • All plastic recycling materials #1-7
  • Food waste


Acceptable recycling materials are the same as curbside recycling. In addition you can also bring branches, leaves and organic compost to the recycle depot.

Electronics: - an electronic bin is available at the Transfer Station for eligible electronics under Alberta's Electronic Recycling Program:
