Temporary Traffic Accommodation Strategy

The work being undertaken on Railway St. will necessarily require road closures and alternative routes. A Traffic Accommodation Strategy has been developed and includes the following highlights:

  • Road closures will be split up into multiple phases along Railway St, starting from Laut Ave and moving north to Limit Ave. This will include closures of the side avenues from Railway St to the alley way as well.
  • Each phase will allow for pedestrian access to all businesses and residences.
  • All businesses will be provided vehicular access for deliveries.
  • Parking will be restricted throughout the duration of the project.
  • During the first two phases of construction, access to Railway St will only be available via Limit Ave until construction is completed between Laut Ave and Ross St.

Construction Notice

Attention Residents/Business Owners:

Starting July 28, 2020, weather dependent, Professional Excavators Inc. will begin construction on Smith Ave. between Railway St. and the alleyway, and on Railway St. between Nanton Ave. and Hammond Ave. During this construction, these sections of road, along with those illustrated in the attached sketch, will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking. All sidewalks on the west side of Railway St will remain open for pedestrians to access businesses. Alley access for parking behind the Arches will be available via Smith Ave.

Unfortunately; weather has delayed the resurfacing of a portion of the currently closed sections of road, which will result in a period of time where the parking lot east of Railway St. between Smith Ave. and Nanton Ave. will need to be closed. Parking will be available on the side avenues, north of Hammond Ave. on Railway St., and in the lot between Mountain View Financial and Carmen's Big Way Grocery Store. Actions are being taken to mitigate the weather delays and to re-instate additional parking areas as soon as possible. A new notice will be sent out as soon as additional parking becomes available.

Shallow utility installation work will also begin next week which will require a trench to be excavated east of Railway St. from Laut Ave. to Limit Ave. This work will not close any additional roadway to traffic, and businesses along the east side of Railway St. will be provided constant vehicle access.

Paving of Railway St. between Ross St. and Grey Ave. is schedule for mid to late next week, which will re-open the entry point to the town via Laut Ave.

Thank you for your patience and continued co-operation during this project.

Letter to residents regarding start of the project:

CONSTRUCTION NOTICE

April 15, 2020

Dear Residents and Business Owners,

Starting April 13, 2020, Professional Excavators & Construction Inc., in partnership with the Town of Crossfield, will be commencing the Railway St. Revitalization Project. Throughout the construction of these improvements there will be various road closures affecting Railway St., and adjoining side avenues.

Preliminary work for the project such as land survey, video survey of existing buildings and site conditions, and construction site set up, is planned to begin on April 13, 2020. Work activities involving community disruption, such as road closures, are planned to begin the week of April 27, 2020 and to be completed in October 2020. Road closures will be split up into separate phases along Railway St., including adjoining side avenues, starting at Laut Ave. and heading north to Limit Ave. over the construction season. These dates are subject to change based on winter/frost conditions. Hours of work are expected to be from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; however, the sections of road under construction will remain closed outside of work hours until the project is completed. In an effort to ensure we stay on schedule, crews may be required to work additional hours to complete the project. These timelines may extend due to unforeseen circumstances or emergency situations out of our control.

Pedestrian access to businesses and residences will be provided at all times. Businesses will also have delivery access via the rear laneways for the businesses located on the west side of Railway St., and via temporary access roads for the businesses located on the east side of Railway St.. Parking for residences and businesses affected will be restricted. Parking will be available along the side avenues. Parking will also be provided intermittently in the parking lot east of Railway St., between Smith Ave. and Nanton Ave.

Due to the nature of the work being completed, there may also be interruptions in services throughout the construction of this project. Businesses and residences affected will be connected to a temporary water line while the new water main is being installed. Members of the underground utilities installation crew will need access to residences, and businesses to install these temporary water lines. All businesses and residences that will require a temporary water connection will be contacted prior to this work being done.

If you have any questions or concerns throughout the construction and road closure you can contact Professional Excavators Business Liaison; Scott Jenks at 403-312-2832.

Thank you for your cooperation during the above improvements.
