2020 Council By-Election

A municipal by-election will be held Monday, Oct. 19, 2020. Crossfield will have one polling station — Town Administrative Office (1005 Ross Street) — open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Two councillors will be elected for a one-year term.

 Nomination

If you are interested in running for council, paper copies of the nomination packages are available at the Town Office (1005 Ross Street) during normal office hours or visit www.crossfieldalberta.com for the Candidate Nomination Package containing the required forms.

Qualification of Candidates - Section 21 of the Local Authorities Election Act 

A person may be nominated as a candidate in any election under this Act if on nomination day the person

(a)    is eligible to vote in that election,

(b)    has been a resident of the local jurisdiction and the ward, if any, for the six (6) consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day, and

(c)    is not otherwise ineligible or disqualified.

Nomination Day is Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020

Nomination papers to be filed between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Town of Crossfield Administration Office - 1005 Ross Street, Crossfield, Alta.

After 12 p.m. on Nomination Day, a person eligible to vote in the election may request to examine filed nominations during regular business hours and in the presence of the Returning or Substitute Returning Officer.

The Town of Crossfield does not require a cash deposit with Nomination Papers.

 Voter Eligibility and Identification

You are eligible to vote in the by-election if:

  • you are at least 18 years old;
  • you are a Canadian citizen; and
  • you live in Alberta, and your place of residence is within the Town of Crossfield on election day.

Prior to voting, voters must present a piece of personal identification displaying their name and current civic address as outlined in the Municipal Election Bylaw 2020-07.
