Maintenance
The Public Works Department does a daily inspection of the town, but
sometimes for some reason or another, some things may get missed, such
as pot holes, damaged or knocked over signage etc.
If at anytime you see a problem or have some concerns and you think
it should be addressed, please feel free to call either the Town Office
at (403) 946-5565 Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
or the Public Works Shop at (403) 946-5878 at any time and we will address
the problem as soon as possible.

Sewer Collection System
The Public Works Department performs a regular scheduled inspection
and flushing as needed of the sewer system trying to prevent sewer main
back ups. Sometimes even with these inspections, sewer main back-ups
do occur. When this occurs we will promptly have the sewer main cleared
of whatever is causing the blockage as quickly as possible to have the
system flowing freely again.
In some cases a blockage may occur in the sewer service line on private
property in which case the landowner is responsible to have it cleared.
Please read the Sewer Back ups on Private
Property Policy for all the information regarding sewer back ups
on private property. If you have any questions, please feel free to
call either the Town Office at (403) 946-5565 Monday through Friday
between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or the Public Works Shop at (403) 946-5878
at anytime and we will be happy to try and answer them for you.

Water Distribution
The Water Distribution Section maintains hydrants, water mains, and
water valves in the distribution system. As well, we maintain water
meters in all residential, commercial and industrial buildings in the
town of Crossfield.
What should I do if I notice water bubbling
up out of the ground?
This usually indicates a break in the underground water main or water
service line. Please report conditions such as this to the Public Works
Department by calling (403) 946-5878 at anytime.
What should I do if my water meter is leaking
or making a clicking noise?
The Public Works is responsible for repairing any malfunctioning water
meters. Please report problems with your meter to the Town Office by
calling (403) 946-5565, Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m.
and 4:30 p.m. and an appointment will be set up to have problem corrected.
What can I do if I'm never home when it
is time for my water meter to be read?
Most houses in Crossfield have had a remote readout installed on the
outside of your home. The remote is connected to the water meter in
your home and shows the same consumption rates. If your home does not
have a remote, or if your existing remote doesn't show the same reading
as your water meter, you can arrange to have problem corrected, at no
charge, by contacting the Town Office at (403) 946-5565, Monday
through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
As of October 2004; the Town Of Crossfield
has switched over to a new type of meter and meter reading system.
New radio read meters are now being used to replace existing impulse
water meters that have malfunctioned or have been in question for high
usage. All new homes and businesses will have the new system installed
at the time of meter installation.
The new radio read system no longer requires an outside read to be installed
on the exterior of the house, an MXU transceiver box is now hardwired
to the water meter and secured at least 3 - 5 feet above the meter on
the inside of the house.
To read the radio read meters a handheld device (HHD) reader can be
used to read specific meters when doing final reads, and re-reads, or
a drive-by vehicle transceiver unit (VXU) can be used to read all radio
read meters at one time. The VXU works in conjunction with a portable
pc (laptop) to allow you to import and export both route and meter reading
information. Once the route information is loaded into the pc, the VXU
is ready to complete the meter reading operation.
AutoVu software works in conjunction with the VXU to create a graphically
enhanced real-time view of the actual meter reading operation. Using
global positioning satellite (GPS) based mapping, AutoVu graphically
depicts the location of the vehicle, the street name and the corresponding
meter. As each meter is successfully read, AutoVu will change the color
of the meter or make it disappear off the screen. The on-screen map
automatically shifts position when used with the GPS system, keeping
the meter reading vehicle positioned on the map as it travels the route.
AutoVu takes the guess work out of missed meter reads by providing the
operator with a real-time view of the completed activity.
We currently as of October 26, 2004 have the handheld device and are
using it to program and read all new radio read meters. We are expecting
the VXU and laptop in approximately 4 weeks time.
