Welcome to Crossfield!

Crossfield is a quiet place, home to 2,861 people, numerous green spaces, a bustling residential market and a solid industrial sector.

Located on a natural ridge approximately 29 Kilometers north of Calgary, the settlement that was to be known as Crossfield got its start. In 1890 a stopping house was opened by Mrs. Hamington to serve as lodging for travelers on the Calgary Edmonton trail. Soon the C an E Railway was built and the siding 29 Kilometers north of Calgary was named Crossfield in honor of an engineer with a CPR surveying crew.

The railway brought a boom of settlers and with them prosperity. Crossfield quickly emerged as a community with promise as fertile soil, expansive ranchlands and local commerce provided all the necessities for rapid growth.

By 1903 all available land was taken up. Settlers soon transformed the surrounding prairie into productive farmland. Crossfield was incorporated into a village on September 14, 1907 and by this time had an impressive list of essential businesses.

Electricity was installed in 1928, water and sewer were connected in 1953, natural gas in 1956, and on August 31, 1977, the Village of Crossfield was connected to the Mountain View Regional Water System to ensure a long term plentiful supply of water to the community.

By August 1, 1980, the population of Crossfield reached over 1000 people. The Village, as a result, was incorporated into a Town. Initiative, cooperation and perseverance shaped this community from its beginning; and today this can still be seen. The people of this community show a willingness to contribute and ensure that Crossfield is progressive. This guarantees that Crossfield will continue to grow and reap the rewards of forward thinking.
